Weekly poll results: Motorola Razr 2019 gets the design right, needs to work on the specs

This year we’ve seen a strange mix of nostalgia and futuristic designs. Nintendo portable is the top console and a Moto Razr phone is causing a stir – if we didn’t know better, we’d think it’s 2004 again.

The reborn Motorola Razr 2019 is a foldable phone – the first new-gen clamshell to be officially unveiled. This design perfectly combines the super tall aspect ratios that are popular today with portability that is out of reach for the gangly non-folding 21:9 phones.

The the good news for Motorola is that there are very few skeptics – only 6% still maintain that foldable phones are not the way forward. That’s not to say that the Razr will be a mass market hit, but Moto knew that beforehand.

The majority of the vote complained about the mid-range specs. At $1,500 that’s quite a reasonable complaint – a sub-1080p display and Snapdragon 710, not to mention the small battery make this price hard to justify.

This is a chance for early adopters to do what they love the most, that is to have something no one else does. Motorola knew it wouldn’t sell too many of its clamshell foldable but given a year’s time to polish the design and reduce manufacturing costs, the second coming of the Razr phone may be as great a success story as the first one.

PS. Earlier this year we asked you about the best foldable form factor and the clamshell option was second to last. Sentiments are seemingly changing.
