New Google Pixel Buds go through Bluetooth certification

During the MadeByGoogle launch event last October, Google announced a few new hardware products including the Pixel 4 duo, the PixelBook Go, and Google unveiled the next-generation Pixel Buds. Sadly, those Pixel Buds were only in the prototype stage of production. Finally, we’re seeing some materialization of the new truly wireless Buds.

The new Pixel Buds were just spotted in a new Bluetooth Certification listing. There are two model numbers attached to the listing: G1007 and G1008. We wonder if there will be two variants of the Pixel Buds or if each number represents the Buds separate from the charging case.

Google Pixel buds deliver rich audio, clear calls, and hands-free help from the Google Assistant. They are designed for your comfort, based on scans of thousands of ears. The customized, secure fit while the ambient vent keeps you open to the world around you.

The new Pixel Buds are certified for Bluetooth 5.0 and fall under the “Mobile Phone Accessory” category. The new Buds won’t support Qualcomm’s aptX codec though, since there’s no Qualcomm hardware inside – it’s made by Bestechnic.

The 2020 Pixel Buds were initially promised to arrive in spring of this year. Given this timeframe, they might be ready just in time for Google I/O in May. Until then, you can join Google’s official waitlist.
