CES 2020 is in full swing over in Las Vegas, giving us a glimpse at the future of tech. We’ve had major announcements from the likes of Intel and AMD, with new laptops from Dell, HP, MSI, and more. We’ve also started seeing a trickle of folding tablets making their way out of the lab, albeit without Windows 10X, expected later this year.
It has been a pretty great show for gaming hardware too, mostly on PC. Here are the biggest and best gaming-related news stories hitting the airwaves from the show so far.
Perhaps the most intriguing product of the show so far is this Alienware concept from Dell, which squeezes a PC into a svelte Switch-sized tablet. We’ve seen similar efforts over the years, including products from GPD and things like the Linx 8 tablet, but it finally looks as though chips are getting small enough, and powerful enough, to bring PC gaming experiences to smaller form factors.
AMD dazzles with new chips
AMD announced a range of new chips, including a monstrous 64-core Threadripper. The firm also announced new chips that aim to take the fight to Intel and NVIDIA on slimmer devices, with the mobility-oriented 5600M and 5700M GPUs.
Intel NUC meets Razer design, Tiger Lake
Intel had a few updates of its own, including new Tiger Lake processors that boost portable graphics performance by 50 percent, complete with reduced power consumption. In addition, their new NUC 9 units can be boosted with full GPUs, and companies like Razer are already stepping in to make gorgeous PC cases to take advantage of the smaller form factor.
Origin Big O bakes an Xbox inside your PC
Origin announced a unique proposition during CES for fans of console and PC gaming. Origin will bundle an Xbox One S or a PS4 Pro inside a gaming PC, complete with customizable specs, while allowing you to switch seamlessly between the two devices. You can even throw a capture card in there for good measure. This is a potentially cool option for content creators who want to ensure they always have access to the latest console trends and exclusives, or just general gaming fans who want both devices. As long as you can stomach the $2500 asking price, anyway.
