AMD announces RX 5600 XT GPU at CES 2020

AMD is preparing for a big 2020 and has kicked things off at CES with a brand new GPU. The RX 5600 XT slots in beneath the existing RX 5700 as a high-performing GPU for gaming at 1080p.

Headline specs include 36 compute units, a 1,375 MHz game clock with a 1,560 MHz boost clock and 6GB of GDDR6 memory. Like other RX 5000 series GPUs it’s based on AMDs latest generation RDNA architecture on the 7nm process. Compared to the competition, in this case a GTX 1660 Ti, it’s no surprise that the RX 5600 XT comes out on top in games like Fortnite and The Division 2.

But we’ll reserve final judgment until real-world samples are out there for real-world testing. What we do know for sure is that the price is very appealing at $279, and it’ll be available from January 21. So we won’t have long to wait.

Also announced in the same press conference is AMD’s next push on laptop graphics. Following on from the RX 5500M, AMD is putting the RX 5600M and RX 5700M onto laptops later on in the first half of this year.
